CHAPTER 3

THE COMEBACK

I didn't know what to say anymore. I stare down at the table, circling my finger around a point on the table. My dad does the same.

And then after an awkward silence he asks me about my school, career and health.

Hoping this ends soon, I answer immediately without making a fuss but as coldly as I can. I had to prove a point that I might be obliged to answer to him but that doesn't mean I have to feel like I care if I tell him. Right? Not after what he did to us.

In mid conversation he drops a bombshell of a fantasy at me.

"I understand you're distant sweetie"

"Oh really? Do you also understand how it feels to be abandoned and have people look at you with nothing but pity? Do you know what they say about me dad? That I am not good enough. That I must have been a bad child. All because of your incompetency! I hate you! I HATE YOU!!!"

As I scream, everybody looks over our table uncomfortably but neither of us notices them.

"Sweetie, I HAD to leave"

"BUT WHY??"

"If I tell you, it'll put you in danger"

"You put me in danger the day you left me. I demand you to tell my why."

"Fine. The corporation was after me."

"The corporation???"

"Yes. They sent somebody to assassinate me. Baby we can't talk here about this. I'll come by the house at midnight. Tell your mom I'm coming home, and I'll explain everything"

"...... But dad, are they still after you?"

"No, because they believe that I'm dead now."

"Are you sure?"

"Well not really because they might have tapped the house but I'll take my best shot at this. I'm tired of running anyway."

"Okay dad I'll tell mom you're coming back"

"See you kiddo"

"See you dad"

I leave the cafe and run back home.as I tell the news to my mother, her eyes glimmer and I can see the happiness on her face.

"Yaaaaaaaaaaaay"

Little did I know that would be the last time I ever saw her smile.
